Ever wish having a PC plugged into your HDTV was simple? Even enjoyable? We did, so we built iConsole; free software to make your PC be the best console for your TV possible.
In a nutshell, we combined a lot of free software, and our own code, to give you all the tools your Home Theater PC (HTPC) needs. You get the performance of a set-top box, with the possibilities of a PC.
(Launching in Feburary)
iConsole isn’t just XBMC/Boxee and Linux put together (though we admire the rumor sites for speculating). Here’s everything in Alpha 1 (and a bit of a preview for what’s ahead):
How’s it stack up?
Probably one of the best ways to explain iConsole today, is to compare it to something else, Boxee Box.
Who’s it for?
Soon to be released in alpha, iConsole is not yet ready for mainstream customers. You’ll need to be familiar with “bare drive” installations of Linux.
If that’s not your thing, don’t worry. In a few releases, our goal is for you to not have to know about that stuff. Just pick up a remote, and enjoy your favorite shows, photos, games, music and movies… from any source.
Right now, we’re looking for tech enthusiasts. As we approach the beta, we’ll get more stable and more ready for mainstream users, and release versions designed for Mac OS X and Windows. Our goal is to make iConsole painless to install on any Mac or PC, even alongside Windows. Today, iConsole is only supported on “bare drive” systems. Meaning, we currently only support formatting the hard drive and installing iConsole on its own.
